Importance of Hybrid learning for K-12 Schools

Hybrid learning, known as blended learning, is a mix of online learning with mortar classroom teaching and traditional brick. Neither it is completely digital nor is it completely virtual. The learner will have control over space and time. Initially, students received educational content through printed textbooks, but with hybrid learning, 30% -79% of the content was delivered online. Hybrid learning is a coursework help model or an educational model where some students attend class in person while others choose to take virtual classes from home. Hybrid learning makes education more attainable for a lot of students.

It is a combination of in-person teaching and asynchronous learning methods. In this learning method, students will work on online exercises as well as watch instructional videos during the rime. Hybrid learning aims to create a singular learning experience by combining the two formats without any weak spots.

According to a US Department of Education study, students with blended learning tend to perform better than face-to-face instructions. Another study published in Contemporary Issues in Education Research shows students accept that they effectively learn more in blending learning environment than traditional face-to-face and online modes.

Understanding the current situation of COVID-19, experts believe hybrid learning environments are going to stay in the world for a long time Hybrid learning method becomes convenient for especially those students who struggle socially have health issues or athletes who travel frequently.

  • Role of Hybrid Learning in the Future of K12 Students

With the ongoing and unpredictable pandemic challenges, students started finding new ways to continue education at a distance, sustain student engagement and deliver consistent success.

  • Strengthen professional learning for students, educators and families

Teachers are taking the help of new instruction tools to meet all students’ socio-emotional and academic needs. Leaders are trying to build a shared vision of what learning will look like in the post-pandemic learning opportunities like classroom, leadership consulting coaching and training on specific technology systems must be implemented to meet the needs of educators.

Students must have an in-depth understanding of technology to survive remote learning. Students must improve their ability to use tools to get access to content and learning processes. Professional learning must aim at incorporating parents and teachers to focus on data, cyber, web and hardware literacies. The entire community should come together to provide a learning experience in a variety of formats.

  • Effective for students with low motivation and low engagement

There are serious concerns for students who lack motivation and struggle to engage with their studies. However, with the use of multimedia, LXPs and interactive elements, students can easily interact with the lessons. The best way to enhance motivation and engagement is by introducing simulations, audio, video, gaming and more into learning materials. Through discussion forums and online message boards, it will be easier to make learning collaboration.

  • Helps students with disabilities

Hybrid learning implements gaming and interactive elements in learning. Gaming elements are a great way to help students with disruptive and ADHD behaviour. Interactive elements enhance and make the learning system easier for those with autism. Technologies like text-to-speech, Kurzweil 3000, Draft: builder, Jouse3, Ginger, and more help students who are suffering from dyslexia and visual disabilities. The blended learning approach improves the accessibility of education among students with disabilities.

  • Allows consistent access to resources and routines

Students can access virtual materials, structural routines whenever they have to find materials for assignments, need additional support or find the objective of the day. Teachers will have to assign tasks to understand the learning environment of students.

In remote learning, focus on:

  • Researching newly introduced concepts
  • Writing, reading or filling out worksheets
  • Watching self-paced, pre-recorded lectures

In class, focus on:

  • Supervised lab activities
  • Individual time for students who require extra support
  • Hands-on lessons and discussions

  • Provides students with an active role in the learning experience

Hybrid classrooms encourage students to practice active learning. It may seem like a lofty challenge for students, parents and teachers, but it can open up to vast opportunities. It will encourage and motivate students to take active participation in the learning experience.

While learning new materials at home, they can pace themselves. Students can take in the materials at their own pace since they do not feel pressured by impatient students asking to move on to the next topic. You can slow down whenever you need to absorb the materials however you prefer.

  • Adjust lessons based on student performance

Teachers closely assess student’s engagement and understanding of each learning concept. After assigning them to watch a video, complete an assignment writing or read a book, teachers gain insights on which areas they understand and struggle most. Educators must implement formative testing tools across both learning environments to assess student performance and adjust students’ lesson plans accordingly.

This way, teachers gain detailed insights on the strengths as well as problem areas on both class and individual levels.

  • Offers flexibility

Students with hybrid learning can enjoy a degree of freedom by going through course material or difficult concepts at any time and place they need. If the particular student is having a problem with understanding a concept, they can slow down the pace of the lessons. If required, teachers can also recommend additional content.

  • Detailed feedback

Students will be able to get detailed and instant feedback with the help of hybrid learning. It is beneficial for both teachers and students. Students will be able to analyze their performance and areas of problems they are facing. On the basis of the feedback, teachers will be able to tailor the teaching methods.

  • Personalized learning

Teachers will be able to track the progress of each student with the help of detailed analytics. Such analytics will include vital information about the learning behaviour of the students. It helps students teachers identify students who are struggling in their academic life. Teachers will be able to create personalized learning solutions for students.

Online learning combines with traditional face-to-face instruction creates an integrated learning experience for students. Hybrid learning is proving to be effective amongst students. It allows students to learn at their own pace effectively. With the right technology and proper resources, hybrid learning will enhance the learning of K-12 students.
