What You Should Consider While Giving CBD To Your Kid?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabis-derived compound that is gradually gaining widespread acceptance in the global pharmaceutical industry, thanks to its numerous medicinal benefits. CBD is often recommended for treating diseases whose primary symptom is pain, such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines, and multiple sclerosis.

In addition to pain, CBD has also shown immense potential in treating mental conditions like stress and anxiety disorders.

Other common diseases that CBD might treat include cancer, diabetes, endometriosis, Parkinson’s disease, inflammatory bowel syndrome, and insomnia, to mention but a few.

But regardless of CBD’s well-documented health benefits, experts recommend approaching the substance with caution. That’s particularly if you’re planning to administer it to your kid.

This post shall go over some of the common things to consider while giving CBD to your child.

  • The quality of a CBD product

As a parent, the first thing you should remember before administering cannabidiol to your kid is to go for high-quality CBD products. And the good news is, there are various ways to determine the quality of CBD products even before buying them.

First, always insist on purchasing cannabidiol that was obtained by the Carbon Dioxide Extraction method. CBD obtained by the CO2 method is usually purer and more potent.

Secondly, demand from the retailer to see proof of test results from independent labs. This is the only way to be sure that the ingredients appearing on the product label are actually contained in the product.

Lastly, consider buying Sunday Scaries CBD candy. You can establish the reputation of a supplier based on the duration they’ve been around as well as their customer reviews.

  • The specific disease to use CBD for

We’ve already gone over a raft of medical conditions that cannabidiol might treat. However, it’s important to understand the specific diseases in kids that doctors often recommend CBD for.

Some of these diseases include:

  • Pain

Well, it’s unlikely that your one-year-old child will develop arthritis or fibromyalgia. However, there are other pain-related issues in children that you can relieve using CBD, such as headaches.

Also, children tend to be prone to physical injury due to their rather hyperactive lifestyles. This is another area where cannabidiol might be useful. Remember, CBD is effective against both nociceptive and neuropathic pain.

  • Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are arguably the most common mental problems affecting children. Like adults, most cases of stress in kids are triggered by everyday events like routine changes. But if the stress isn’t properly managed, it could escalate into a full-blown anxiety disorder.

Fortunately, CBD has shown remarkable potential in treating various anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

Presently, there’s limited scientific research pointing to CBD’s ability to treat ADHD in children. However, numerous anecdotal reports indicate a massive reduction in ADHD symptoms after CBD use.

Some scientists now opine that since CBD is effective against stress and anxiety, the compound might also relieve hyperactivity symptoms in ADHD kids.

  • Epilepsy

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has since approved a CBD-based drug known as Epidiolex for the treatment of two rare forms of epilepsy in children, namely Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.

Extensive studies have shown that Epidiolex might help reduce seizure frequency in kids.

  • Autism

Autism is another common medical problem in children that doctors claim CBD might treat.

Although CBD isn’t the magic pill for autism, various studies show that the compound might mediate some of autism’s most bothersome symptoms, including rage attacks, irritability, and seizures.

  • The delivery method

CBD products come in all shapes and sizes, depending on the intended delivery method. In this respect, we have inhalable like CBD-infused e-juices, smokeable like dried cannabis extracts, sublingual sprays, topicals like CBD balms, and edibles like CBD gummies.

Obviously, no self-respecting parent would subject their child to the agony of vaping or smoking. That leaves you with oral tinctures, topical balms, and CBD edibles.

Now, CBD-infused topical products are perfect for treating localized problems, such as tender joints or swollen ankles.

Sublingual sprays and edibles are both administered orally. But if your child is a picky eater, you may face problems giving them oral tinctures. That’s because tinctures somewhat resemble the common cough syrup. In that case, your best bet would be to opt for edible products like CBD-infused gummies or candies.

  • Dosing information

CBD has no ideal dose. This can be good or bad, depending on your first inclinations when giving CBD to your kid.

As a responsible parent, always start with low doses, say, 2 mg of CBD per serving for every six hours. The goal is to observe your child’s reactions before possibly upping the doses.

If you notice any adverse effects like drowsiness or dry mouth, stop giving CBD to your kid immediately and consult your doctor.

Even if the child doesn’t experience any side effects at all, resist the temptation of increasing the doses drastically. Note that CBD is generally ineffective at very high doses.

CBD is unquestionably one of the most medically beneficial herbal extracts for children. But regardless of its healing properties, parents should exercise extreme caution while serving CBD to their kids. That means investing in CBD high-quality products and using these products strictly for recommended diseases. It also means choosing a suitable delivery method and, most importantly, serving CBD to your kid in moderating.
