Getting a good quality of sleep is important to feel your best self. Healthy sleep patterns are extremely important for your concentration, learning, memory, and creativity. Also, mood swings are misbalanced due to sleeplessness. Healthy sleep also strengthens your immune system and makes it easier for you to have a healthy diet. In contrast, if you’re not getting good quality sleep, you are more likely to feel sleepy, foggy, depressed, and low on energy the whole day. Sometimes, due to busy schedules, people are not able to get enough amount of sleep. But in some other cases, the after-effects of poor sleep can be seen on the body gradually. Therefore, it is possible to succumb to them without even realizing that they impact your health and life in a big way.   

Just take a step back and consider refreshing your sleep habits and your night routine also. Not only healthy sleep is required for some particular hours of sleep, but it also means that the quality of your sleep should be up to the mark. Uninterrupted sleep for those many hours should be consistent. 

What Is a Healthy Sleep Pattern?

As you all know that sleep is a complex process that can affect your entire body. When are asleep, we go through a series of different sleep stages. Starting from the light sleep stage to the deep sleep stage and then moving to the rapid eye movement (REM). Successfully moving through all these stages many times every night allows you to sleep and let it perform all the important functions like restoring our body and mind. You will see great benefits from your sleep when you actually sleep for an adequate amount of sleep every night. You should have a night of uninterrupted sleep and maintain consistency in your sleep timings for natural circadian rhythms. 

Why healthy sleep is Important? 

  • Poor sleep is linked to depression
    • Depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues are associated with poor sleep quality accompanied by sleep disorders. It is estimated that almost every person suffering from sleep apnea complains about poor sleep quality. Poor sleep is linked with increased chances of committing suicide. People who have sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and RLS will also complain about facing depression as compared to the people who don’t have it. 
  • Sleep improves your immune function

Even a small loss of sleep has been shown to impair immune function. One large 2-week study monitored the development of the common cold after giving people nasal drops with the cold virus. They found that those who slept less than 7 hours were almost 3 times more likely to develop a cold than those who slept 8 hours or more. If you often get colds, ensuring that you get at least 8 hours of sleep per night could be very helpful. Eating more garlic can help as well.
